Our History

Sector Learning Solutions' business model has evolved since opening in 1983, yet what hasn't changed is our devotion to helping people become more effective. Sector Learning provides training and technology so people can enrich themselves, their organizations and the world.

Sector Learning Solutions was founded in 1983 by Wolfgang Holzmann as “Sector Computers” and focused on computer hardware repairs with some training. Many people still remember the Quadra Street location and the original logo and colours.

The company later changed its name to Sector Business School Software Training and Development and focused its training on operating systems, the internet, Microsoft Office 2000 and management courses.

Sector's current Chief Executive Officer Gerry Brimacombe took ownership of the company in 2004. The business moved to its present location in 2005.

In 2007, Sector was awarded a Corporate Supply Agreement with the BC Public Service - which provides preferential pricing and services for the BC Government, agencies and Crown Corporations, as well as educational institutions and municipalities across the province.

In 2008, Sector helped create and deliver training for the BC Government upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 (known as Upgrade 2.0 or U2). This project involved the deployment of new hardware and software to 36,000 users across the BC Public Service. Sector delivered key training for Ministers and Deputy Ministers as part of the adoption of tablet computers running Office 2007.

In 2008, Sector was named a finalist for the GVCC Business of the Year and in 2009 began offering web-based eClasses and self-directed eLearning in addition to the classroom and one-to-one training that has been at the core of Sector's business since 1983.

Veronica Rutherford was hired as a temp in January 2010 and transitioned into the role of Client Service Coordinator in May 2010. She left Sector Learning, and Canada, in June 2011 to pursue a new career in Washington DC. During her time at Sector Learning, she was key player in implementing a number of innovations, including her Greener Sector Initiatives (which transformed our office into a zero-waste site) and coordinating the creation of our online pre-assessments tests.

In June 2011 Katie Caplan joined Sector Learning as our new Client Service Coordinator.

In September 2011, Sector Learning annouced a soft launch of their new brand, which includes a new logo and new focus on delivering learning through online webinars, or eClasses.

In October 2011, Sector Learning Solutions welcomed Maurice Lagasse as General Manager to take over the day to day operation and administration of the company.

So what's the secret of Sector's long-term success?

"What matters most is listening to our clients and meeting their needs. Sector has changed since 1983 because client needs have changed. And we will continue to grow for the next 25 years because your needs continue to grow.”
